Greta Valley School
Greta Valley School was established in 1893 and is a co-educational, full primary, state school. It is a rural school situated in the Hurunui District, 80 kilometres north of Christchurch and graded decile 5. The school is currently staffed by a Principal, two teachers, one teacher aide, a school secretary and cleaner/caretaker. The school roll is currently 40 .
Our current philosophy is to provide learning programmes that are challenging and appropriate to the present and future needs of our children – Skills for Success. The school recognises its responsibilities to meet the learning requirements of all children including those with special learning needs and within its general teaching programmes. Greta Valley is widely regarded as a school that is providing a good quality education for all its students. The students participate in a range of interesting learning activities that are frequently linked to their own lives and the local community.
There are two composite classes. The Principal is released three days a week to lead learning in the school, to teach groups of children, and to perform administrative duties.
